OOC editorial

This is a OOC editorial surrounding the behavior of the designer of the above outfit.
I’m a part of a flickr group – Second Life Fugs and Fails. Normally our flickr photos are of the tasteless and stupid in SL – bling, shoes that were fugly in 2006, poorly fitted prims, bling, slider abuse, face lights, and more bling. Every now and then, someone posts a find on Marketplace or something taken at a store in world.
Someone posted (as was later noted, she purchased the outfit and uploaded the full perm photo that came with that outfit to flickr) the photo I’ve posed with above. We all had a really good laugh, shock and disbelief at the ungodly amount of Photoshop used, the sexist nature of the hammer dangling from her vagina (anyone else remember the South Park episode “Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset” because it reminded me of Paris Hilton and her pineapple… go look for cat-tat-a-fish), and the post-coitus dripping panties that are so tight they require a wrench to remove.
In the original thread, which has since been removed, the designer tried to pass the buck to the graphic designer/photographer who made the ad and claim it was a violation of copyright to use the photo at all. She had a small cow about right to post/permission and stuff like that.
She has also gone on to retaliate against the original poster by marking all of her photos in flickr as “inappropriate.” Classy. Just like your choice of advertising.
Designer, I’m giving you an out. Explain to us your creative vision because I have to call into question your judgement that you would OK such a photo. Yeah – your photographer may have made it but you said “OK.” YOU said “Hey – hammers hanging from the vajay-jay is cool and edgy!” “Sexual exploitation is what my clothing line is all about!”
If you have a vision and a story behind this photo that I’m not seeing, please explain yourself. It is your clothing line so YOU are ultimately responsible for such a photo.
If I had seen this in world (which its available at a couple of places and linked on other blogs that I read on a daily basis) even apart from the fug group, I would have had the same opinion and still would not have bought the outfit. I also would have been turned off by the giant bee-stung fish-like frowny lips, the oversized horse shoe hips that mimic the giant Redwood tunnels in California, and the underwear that defy gravity and physics.
The links go to examples from the SL Fail and Fugs stream, not your blog. Because heaven forbid you decided that it is some how a violation of copyright to link to your blog. I hope that is universally applied. But a link isn’t a copyright violation – so you know. Neither was the original post, according to fair use as described by the Electronic Freedom Foundation.
All of those items are regular features in our search of fug in SL.
Now that I see how childish and wholly unprofessional you are to attack someone’s flickr stream when it is absolutely clear none of the photos in that stream were inappropriate, I sure as hell won’t buy any of your clothes in the future nor will I ever recommend them to my friends.
If you are going to masquerade as a business owner, act like it. Use your blog to explain your vision (or the comments thread on flickr for that matter). Take your lumps, learn from them and move on.

Really nicely said, Calina. This cow obviously has the maturity of a four year old, can’t stand to be criticized or made fun of and is trying to lash out at the person who noticed it, and I’m has the abominably poor taste to think a photo like that is “hawt!”
‘Cuz I know it’s MY goal in life to train my kegel muscles to be able to maintain a death grip on a freaking hammer. I mean, really, I imagine the sound of a plunger unstopping a clogged sink when she pulls it from her vagina, and gods only know what else falling out that she’s been keeping stored up there. THAT is sexy. AND classy. /end sarcasm
Anyhow… To the dramallama twit that runs the store: Get used to the fact that if you put it up in SL (or on the internet, period. It’s good to keep that in mind when you post nasty RL pictures of yourself that are of the same ilk), it will be seen, photographed, reposted, and made fun of when appropriate. If you can’t handle the heat, get the hell out of the fire. But don’t try to run around screaming copyright infringement, then be a petty little snot and mark all of someone’s photos “inappropriate” when no lawyers will take your case because you have none. It isn’t copyright infringement, it’s not like she was trying to sell that disgusting…sorry, did you call that a dress? I mean, really, I think you’re the only one that would want to wear the hideous thing.

“Really nicely said, Calina. This cow obviously has the maturity of a four year old, can’t stand to be criticized or made fun of…” Yes, maturity of a four year old cause she doesn’t like to be “made fun of.” Who’s doing the bullying and making fun of? Now tell me who’s being the four year old.

Still appreciate you posting a new picture of the picture (it’s a far more interesting/amusing version than the ones I’d taken for the purpose) and I agree with what you’re saying here, too. That ad is just horrible on so many, many levels.

bravo, well written
just wish some of the designers using these shapes/pictures to sell the stuff they have taken hours to make, wise up and use a way that would appeal to most shoppers not a handfull of fish lipped gurners

This is ridiculous. Why are you obsessed with this girl? And if you don’t like her advertisement then don’t look at it and move on. I see things all the time I don’t agree with. Never have I made a big issue over it like I’m seeing here. Shocking to see you go through this much trouble just to bash her. Almost like you want her to fight back with you. I mean you DID start it. I would have been upset too, no wonder she went to your Flickr and flagged it. And it looks like the only people here who agree with you are your friends. I’ve dealt with girls like you back as a teenager. Used to be one of them. Basically you don’t have anything to really talk about other than making fun of and bullying people. And most the time you can’t stay friends anyway cause all the jealousy and catty back-stabbing . And enough about the fish lips already. Who gives a shit? Grow the hell up. Btw, save your breath. I’m not coming back half a dozen times like you to check for replies and bicker more. I learned a long time ago to never argue with an idiot. They’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

For someone who said that they weren’t coming back, you sure had alot of comments to leave all over my blog this morning. Keep changing your name. I see who you are.
Anyway, the only 2 things I have to say are: she had no reason whatsoever other than being a vindictive snot to moderate my flickr account because ALL of my photos were correctly categorized for both content and maturity level… unlike her and her co-designer’s streams which are in severe violation of flckr community standards (bare boobies are supposed to be “moderate” not “safe” as she has them marked).
#2: she is the one who made the original stink over someone using a photo that had was not marked in anyway as restricted and then blamed the graphic designer over what is clearly a sexist photo… using a copyrighted image from a RL vendor. So don’t even start with me.
You aren’t even a very good troll.

Really? Cuz you’re arguing, darling, so I guess she must not be an idiot. ^.^
